Tombstone Courthouse Update

Good News!!! The Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park has gotten a repreive, and will remain open.

Due to the successful efforts of the City of Tombstone, Tombstone Restoration Commission, and Tombstone Chamber of Commerce and with support from citizens and history lovers, the Tombstone Courthouse will stay open, much to the delight of locals and visitors to Tombstone.

An Intergovernmental Agreement was approved with the Arizona State Parks Board which will allow the City of Tombstone to take over operations for three years, with options to renew, until the state gets back on its feet again.  The entrance fees will go to the City of Tombstone which will use the money to maintain the historic building and repair the leaking roof.  The Tombstone Chamber of Commerce will operate the park similar to Boothill, using mostly volunteers dressed in clothing from the 1880’s.

The  Tombstone Restoration Commission is assisting with the inventory of artifacts.  It is expected the Tombstone Courthouse and museum will be  open regular hours without interruption, so be sure to visit the museum soon and support the local efforts to keep this great site open.

The Tombstone Courthouse museum is one of the best places to discover the true tales of the history of Tombstone and Cochise County in the boom years of the 1880’s. Some other highly recommended Tombstone sites are the Historama (located at the OK Corral), the Tombstone Epitaph museum (free), and the museum at the Rose Tree Inn.
